About Keystone

Who we are

Keystone Industrial Services is run by Francisco Padilla — thirteen years in industrial maintenance, from four different sides of the trade — and a small crew of technicians working across Southern California.

We troubleshoot and repair production machinery, build and run preventative maintenance programmes, support in-house maintenance departments that are stretched thin, and get equipment onto a network so you can see what it is doing without walking to the panel.

Thirteen years, from four directions

Most maintenance people come at the trade from one angle. Francisco has worked it from four, and each one taught something the others could not.

  • In-house plant maintenance. Being the person who gets called when the line stops, and who has to answer for how long it stays stopped.
  • Field service and contract work. Walking into unfamiliar plants and diagnosing equipment with no history and no handover.
  • Controls and automation. PLCs, drives, instrumentation — the part of the machine that is invisible until it is the problem.
  • Maintenance supervision. Running a department, building PM programmes, and learning what maintenance costs when it is done badly.

That combination is the reason Keystone can take a call about a bearing and a call about a PLC fault and treat both as the same job: find out what is actually wrong before anyone spends money.

Why this company exists

Keystone started in 2026, out of four things seen too many times from the inside.

Nobody shows up fast enough

A line goes down and the plant waits days for a service call. The repair takes two hours. The wait cost more than the repair by an order of magnitude. We commit to being on site within 24 hours, and we say so in writing.

The big shops sell you the senior tech and send the apprentice

You meet an experienced person during the sales conversation and never see them again. At Keystone the person who answers the phone is a technician who will be on your site.

In-house teams are stretched too thin to do the job properly

Most maintenance departments have been cut to the point where they can only react. There is no bandwidth for PM, for root-cause work, or for the project that would stop the failure recurring. We are built to support that team rather than replace it — extra hands during a shutdown, a second opinion on a stubborn fault, or the PM programme nobody has had time to write.

Parts get swapped and the root cause never gets found

The same failure comes back every few months because the first repair treated the symptom. A motor that keeps tripping its overload has a reason. Finding it takes a meter, a thermal camera, and the patience to work the circuit in order — and it is cheaper than replacing the motor twice.

The underlying point

Every one of those adds up to the same thing: maintenance done properly costs less than maintenance done fast and wrong. Diagnosing the actual fault, once, is the cheapest outcome available to you.

Where we have worked

The equipment changes less between industries than people expect, but the constraints do not. These are the environments we know:

  • Food and beverage — washdown, sanitary requirements, and uptime pressure where a stopped line is product on the floor.
  • Packaging and plastics — fillers, cappers, labellers, extrusion and converting equipment, with changeovers that punish downtime.
  • Water treatment and utilities — pumps, blowers, chemical feed, and the instrumentation that has to keep reading true.
  • Military and aerospace — environments where documentation, procedure, and doing it exactly right are not optional.

Training and safety

Francisco's technical training began in the military, where the standard for procedure and documentation is set higher than most of industry runs. On top of that, the crew carries the safety training plants screen for before they will let anyone near a panel:

  • OSHA 10 / 30 — construction and general industry safety.
  • NFPA 70E arc flash — required by a growing number of plants before anyone opens a live 480 V enclosure.
  • Lockout / tagout — verified isolation, done the same way every time.

The tools we have published

We have built and released 52 free calculators and troubleshooting trainers — no sign-up, no email wall. They exist because the knowledge in this trade is mostly locked in people's heads, and because a company that will show its work is easier to trust than one that will not.
